GuidePrinting and PDFs
In the browser, the document is printed by the browser. That sounds like a compromise and mostly is not — it means the PDF matches what you see, and it uses whatever your machine already knows about paper sizes.
Making the file
- Open a finished invoice.
- Press Share or print as PDF.
- In the dialogue, set the destination to Save as PDF (Chrome, Edge) or use the PDF button (Safari, Firefox).
- Save it, then attach it to an email or a message.
On a phone, the same button offers the system share sheet on browsers that support it, which sends the document straight into WhatsApp, Signal or mail without saving a file first.
Turn off headers and footers
Browsers add the page URL and a date to the margins by default, which looks amateurish on an invoice. In the print dialogue, open More settings and switch off Headers and footers. It is remembered afterwards.
What is on the printed page
The app's own furniture — navigation, buttons, the sidebar — is removed by a print stylesheet, so what comes out is the document alone:
- Your logo, business name, address, contact details and tax ID.
- The document type and its number, the issue date and the due date.
- Who it is for, with their address and tax ID if you have them.
- Every line, with quantity, unit price and amount.
- Subtotal, each tax by name and rate, any discount, and the total.
- The amount still due, if part of it has been paid.
- Your payment link as a button and a QR code, with the address in readable text.
- Your standing payment methods and their instructions.
- Your notes, and the terms you set.
Paper and margins
The layout is sized for both A4 and US Letter without changes. Set the paper in the print dialogue; the document reflows to fit either. Leave the scale at 100% — anything else moves the QR code's printed size, which is what a scanner cares about.
The Billkeep line
On the free tier, documents carry a quiet “Made with Billkeep” line at the foot. It is a footer line rather than a watermark, deliberately — it is your document going to your customer, and defacing it would be a poor way to ask for money. Any paid plan removes it — it used to be withheld from the cheapest one, which read as mean rather than as a reason to spend more.
The line is decided when the document is rendered, not when it was finished, so upgrading cleans up documents you already made.
Fonts and other alphabets
In the browser you get whatever fonts your machine has, so scripts like Arabic, Devanagari, Thai and Chinese print correctly if your system can display them. The Android app bundles its own font and covers Latin, Greek and Cyrillic; a handful of currencies fall back to their three-letter code there rather than printing an empty box.
